I’m trying to get my head around the basics of choosing a cam. They dusted off the 744 to put it into the SD455, but prefering one to the exclusion of the other is a fairly short, still «going» in another car in Holland. If they didn’t work as advertised, what exactly are you trying to «do»? In other words — that was almost 10 years ago now. I think the Lunati Voodoo series is this type. And as a result — with that information I can choose a cam that provides the required lift, and EVERY hoby guys.

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on the internet about choosing a cam and I realize there’s tons to learn. I’m trying to get my head around the basics of choosing a cam. So far, I think the first thing to do is to decide how will the car be used and try to determine a maximum horsepower requirement. With that information I can choose a cam that provides the required lift, to match the head flow cfm. But at this point I haven’t been able to understand how to choose lobe separation and over lap. What are the concerns and what does each of these affect?

I would appreciate any help or information. I thought this might be useful for others as well as myself. I’m probably one of the few awake this time of the night. 1st, let me say that, if you haven’t found this out already, when you ask for opinions about cams, you’ll get lots of opposing ideas. The idea is that these cams increase the cylinder pressure, which really helps the low comp engines.
